Dear Rockville Centre Community,

I am writing to you today to announce the appointment of Mr. John DeTommaso as the Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. DeTommaso is a distinguished educator with over 36 years of experience. He has held various leadership roles, including his most recent position as the Superintendent of Schools for the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District. His career is marked by a transformative and collaborative approach to leadership, with a focus on maximizing student potential.

Mr. DeTommaso's experience as a district-level administrator is extensive. Before his tenure as Superintendent, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Technology in the Bethpage Union Free School District from 2009 to 2013. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing curriculum and instruction, coordinating professional staff development, and designing the instructional and technology budgets. Mr. DeTommaso also served as the principal of Bethpage High School.

More recently, he served as the Interim Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Technology for the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools. His educational background includes a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University, an M.S. in Education from Hofstra University, and a P.D. in Education Administration from LIU C.W. Post.

Beyond his impressive professional qualifications, John has extensive ties to our community. He is a proud Rockville Centre resident, where he lives with his wife. His children attended Rockville Centre schools. Furthermore, many of you may know him from his volunteer work, including his time as a volunteer lacrosse coach for PAL and most recently, our Varsity Boys team. We are confident that he will be an incredible asset to our administrative team and to our entire community. Please join me and the Board of Education in welcoming Mr. DeTommaso!

Sincerely,
Matt Gaven
