Welcome Back, Alumni!

We’re excited to reintroduce the Rockville Centre Schools Alumni Newsletter, now published twice a year. Our goal is to keep you connected with what’s happening in the district, highlight the achievements of our graduates, and strengthen the relationship between alumni and our schools.

Whether you graduated last year or decades ago, you will always be part of our community—and we’re glad you’re here.

District Highlights

Here’s a look at what’s been happening across the district.

Academic Programs:

Over the past three years, the district has significantly expanded its focus on computer science, offering a growing range of courses designed to prepare students for the future. Students are introduced to foundational skills through Computer Science and Robotics classes at the middle school level, with continued opportunities in high school through courses such as AP Computer Science Principles, Prompt Engineering, AP Computer Science A, Python, and AP Networking. This expanded curriculum reflects the district’s commitment to equipping students with essential technology and problem-solving skills for an evolving digital world.

Student Achievements:

Scholarships for Academic Excellence

Five South Side students were recognized for being awarded Scholarships for Academic Excellence, which are given to top New York State high school seniors based on State Education Department criteria, including Regents exam performance through junior year. Valued at $500 and $1,500, the scholarships support students attending a New York State college.

National Merit Commended Students

Four South Side High School students were named National Merit Commended Students, an honor recognizing outstanding performance on the PSAT. These students scored in the top 2–3 percent nationally, placing them among the top 34,000 students nationwide—a truly impressive achievement.

Strengthening Community Partnerships

This year, the district has continued to grow partnerships that support student learning in meaningful ways:

  • College Connections: Expanded dual-enrollment opportunities allow students to earn college credit while still in high school. Classes are currently available through Molloy, LIU, Five Towns, SUNY Stony Brook and Hofstra.

  • Workforce & Community Collaborations: The students in our RVC Work Program have been hard at work through their involvement with BackYard Players/Love Nana, community internships, and their experience as a part of a CONNECT course they take through Molloy University. These experiences help our students foster skills necessary for post-secondary life. They are doing some amazing things, and they should be so proud!

  • Service & Engagement: South Side boys and girls varsity soccer players participated in New York City’s Tunnel to Towers 5K Walk & Run, demonstrating their commitment to service and community involvement. The event raises funds to support families of first responders and military members affected by tragedy, honoring their sacrifice while giving back to those in need.

These connections enrich the student experience and help prepare graduates for their next steps.
